Olympics Day 6 - Gold is Good

Me at the Medal Ceremony

When Vancouver was announced as the city with the winning bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics, I was living in Toronto. It was 2003 and I had no idea where I’d be in 2010, but I knew that I wanted to be back in Vancouver. I never imagined that I’d be living and working downtown, right in the middle of all the action. Every day I witness new and amazing things on the streets, (mostly Robson, Granville and Mainland), and my walk to and from work takes twice as long because I keep stopping to take pictures. Here are some of the things happening on the streets today.

Tonight, for the second time in a week, I got to witness a Canadian receive a Gold Medal! Maëlle Ricker won Gold yesterday in snowboard cross, and received her medal at BC place tonight. Again, the crowd cheered and sang, and again I fought back the tears.

After the ceremonies, we were treated to a concert by Alberta country singer, Paul Brandt. He was fantastic! Not only did he put on a great show, but he is a very proud Canadian and was so honoured and humbled to be performing at the Olympics.
