Christina and I on Robson watching the Olympic flameWow!
Really, what else can I say? The past 2 days have been Fantastic. Incredible. Remarkable. But most of all: Busy. So busy, that there hasn’t been any time to write. Which kind of sucks because I feel like I have so much to write about. So, because it’s been a crazy 2 days, and because I’m tired and it’s time to go to sleep, I make this just a summary of Friday and Saturday.
Friday morning: Went and watched the torch with Christina, (she arrived the night before from Toronto), on Robson Street. Then ran down to Georgia street to see if we could catch a glimpse of it there. The street was so packed you could barely move, but the buzz in the air was amazing.
Olympic Torch on RobsonFriday night, Christina was lucky enough to score a ticket to the Opening Ceremonies, while Chad and I headed of to The Molson Canadian Hockey House. The MCHH is apparently the place to be if you can’t make it into the actual sporting/ceremony venue. It was packed and promises to be quite the party during the games. After the Opening Ceremonies finished, house band, The Odds came on for a few songs. They then invited Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies to come up on stage and sing with them, and then the same for Colin James. Following The Odds set, we were treated to the special guest performer Bryan Adams! Adams was on stage for about an hour and a half and sang all of my favourites: Summer of 69, Somebody, and Cuts Like a Knife! We danced and sang and Chad got interviewed by CNN and Global TV! (Was it the hat?)
Chad being interviewed by CNNSaturday morning, Christina and I ventured out for a walk around the city. First stop was the Olympic Superstore at the Bay. The lineup was over a block long, but it moves really fast; I was in within 10 minutes. Inside we discovered the pin trading centre, where I made my first trades!

With the Sochi team! From there we strolled over to see the newly lit Olympic cauldron down at Coal Harbour. Impressive, but too bad it was behind a fence. I guess with all of the protests and vandalism going on, they need to keep it protected.
Christina and the Olympic Cauldron We were starving then so we walked up to Robson to grab a bite. As we walked out of the restaurant, there was a large, (seriously… thousands!), crowd that had formed on the street and before we knew it, we were treated to a flash mob Dancing in the Street. So much fun!
This evening we wandered through Yaletown and then headed out to see the downtown LiveCity site, but got distracted on the way by the Four Host First Nations Aboriginal Pavilion. A show was about to start so we decided to wait about ½ and hour in the rain to check it out. Well worth it. The show featured 2 different musical acts: Inez and Sister Says. Both were fantastic and definitely worth checking out.

Display at Fine Finds in YaletownAfter all the walking around today, we are exhausted! I would have loved to keep going and experience all the parties, but I’m not 23 anymore, and my bed is calling my name.
I really wish I could write more about everything that I’ve seen and experienced the last couple of days, but there’s just so much, that I can’t even put into words. What I can say though, is that right now, Vancouver is alive! A true world class city that is so exciting to be in the middle of!
GO CANADA GO!!!
