History was made yesterday when Alexandre Bilodeau won the Gold in the Men’s Moguls at the 2010 Winter Olympics. History was made again today as the Canadian National Anthem was played when Bilodeau received his medal, and I was there!
My friend Trevor and I bought tickets to tonight’s medal ceremony several weeks ago when we heard a rumour that Céline Dion might be performing as it was Québec night at BC Place. Well… Céline did not play tonight, but when Bilodeau won Gold last night and I realized that I would be seeing it live, I thought “Céline who?” We had 4 tickets in total, so I invited my Mom and sister to join us, and although they wouldn’t partake in my maple leaf face tattoo tradition, they still came decked out in their red and white.

Before the Ceremony started... getting excited! There was only one live Medal Ceremony at BC place tonight; the others all took place in Whistler and were shown to us via large screens. But that wasn't an issue because it was really only the Gold medal that mattered. When the moguls medalists walked out to the stage, the applause was deafening. When the flags were raised and the anthem played, I got goose bumps and tried to hold back the tears; the entire audience sang the anthem, some louder than others, (Mom), and it felt incredible. I was trying to multitask waiving my flag, and taking pictures with both my iPhone and regular camera. I think I did an ok job, but had I thought to bring my dslr camera, I’m sure I would have gotten better pictures. Oh well… I had an amazing time and once again felt Canadian Pride flowing through my veins tonight.
